ACLU to release new data on solitary confinement in New Mexico

News

Researchers say a new study has found New Mexico prisons are holding more inmates in solitary confinement than they claim.

A joint study from the New Mexico ACLU and the University of New Mexico found that nearly one in ten inmates is in solitary. A number they say is higher than those reported by New Mexico Correctional Facilities.

The ACLU says solitary confinement often has adverse effects on inmates mental and physical health.
