SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A drunk driver in Santa Fe has pleaded guilty to a wrong way crash.
Joe Salazar, 55, hit a pickup truck head-on on I-25 back in 2013. The three people inside the truck weren’t seriously hurt, but Salazar broke his legs in the crash.
Witnesses reported seeing him driving about 100 miles an hour and police later found an open bottle of vodka in his car.
Salazar’s trial was about to start Monday, when he took a plea deal. He now faces up to three years in prison.
If convicted at trial, he could have faced nine years.
