The ABQ Biopark spent the day putting the focus on an ocean species struggling to survive.
It was Sea Turtle Awareness Day, and the aquarium wanted to raise awareness for all seven species that are currently endangered.
Visitors learned more about sea turtles at various stations, including their lifespan and diet.
More importantly, the Biopark wants people to know how harmful plastic bags are to sea turtles.
“We think we’re a long way from the ocean, but the Rio Grande is right there and that flows into the Gulf and goes through there, plastic bags can fly for miles especially with the winds we get here,” said Pamela Dupzyk with the ABQ Biopark.
Children who attended also had fun with sea turtle arts and crafts.
