911 callers describe scene minutes before deadly crash on I-25

Just minutes before a mom with her 2-year-old in the car plowed into and killed two young men, other drivers tried to stop her.

It was clear to them that she was drunk.

“It almost wrecked me and then two other cars and then it’s just going from shoulder to the other side. I mean it’s just driving really, really bad,” a 911 caller said.

Then just five miles down the interstate, 21-year-old Michael Chambellan and 28-year-old Lonny Escovedo, were struck and killed as they tried to change a tire on the side of the road.

Police say 31-year-old Christie Noriega was the driver behind the wheel. In the backseat, her 2-year-old son.

Those who witnessed the crash were so shaken, they could hardly speak when they called 911.

“We just witnessed an accident,” another caller said. “There’s three to four cars, somebody in the street. See a lady standing there and screaming, jumping up and down, so I don’t know.”

Noriega and her son were not hurt.

She is now facing vehicular homicide, aggravated DWI and child abuse charges, and more than 30 years in prison.
