An Albuquerque 5-year-old called 911 after a spooky image, one that is going viral, popped up on his computer. The response he received from the kind and caring dispatchers and officers will stay with him forever.
Natalie Gurule has worked as a 911 dispatcher for Albuquerque police for two years. “It’s challenging every day but it’s these calls that we look forward to,” said Gurule.
Eric Pedroza who’s 5-years-old called 911 when the creepy “Momo” image popped up on his screen.
Eric: “Are you going to find her?”
Gurule: “Yes. We’re going to find out who did it. But that picture that you see. It’s not real.”
Hector Ulibarri, Eric’s stepfather, said that you always tell your kids to call 911 if they’re scared, which is what Eric did.
The “Momo” image has gone viral and known to pop up during online videos to scare children.
“It was really frightening for him so they wanted to reassure him that it was just a hoax and wasn’t real… or that it wasn’t coming after him,” said Gurule.
However, calming Eric down wasn’t enough. Gurule says she wanted to meet him in person. Friday, Gurule met Eric.
The 5-year-old also got his own personal tour of the Albuquerque Police Department museum and reminded that he can call the police anytime he’s afraid.
Friday, Eric left with a bag full of police gadgets and said that one day he wants to help others just like the police.
