LAS CRUCES (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police responded to and investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on southbound I-25 early Saturday morning.
Early stages of investigation indicate a Hyundai sedan was traveling southbound on I-25 near mile marker 6 when the vehicle came to a stop while in the left lane of travel. A Ford sedan, also traveling southbound in the left lane, collided into the Hyundai, causing the fuel tank of the Hyundai to rupture and catch fire.
All four occupants of the Hyundai sedan sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The two children were transported to local hospitals where they were pronounced deceased. The driver and passenger were pronounced deceased on scene.
The 18-year-old driver and sole occupant of the Ford sedan has been airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso and is said to be in stable condition.
The crash is still under investigation.
