30 million Americans are affected by rare disease

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)- There are nearly 7,000 diseases affect 30 million Americans that may take a very long time for doctors to diagnose and there is a day to create awareness.

Rare Disease Day is celebrated to create awareness for those who have ailments that have few numbers reported.

A rare disease is a disease that affects fewer than 200,000. Nearly one in 10 people have a rare disease.

Heather Briganti, a mother of a child with a rare disease, joined KRQE’s This Morning team to talk about her experience. Brigani also discusses how to find support groups. Watch above.
