NEW MEXICO (KRQE)– Two men have been convicted of poaching a mule deer in the Santa Fe National Forest.

Darryl and Clifford Vigil were cutting firewood in November when they confessed to shooting the buck.

They were caught with a deer skull, packages of meat and this picture of the deer.

The vigils were ordered to pay more than a thousand dollars in fines and $4,000 in civil damages to the state.

The two were caught after someone reported them to the Department of Game and Fish using the Operation Game Thief online reporting system.
