Fundraiser at the Santa Ana Star Center to help kids with cancer

New Mexico Living

The New Mexico Firefighters event for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has been raising money for over a decade to help fund research to find a cure for cancers affecting children.

Sunday, March 10, from noon to 4 p.m. the group will have a fundraiser at the Santa Ana Star Center. The event, which features firefighters, police officers, EMTs and others throughout the community who shave their heads in solidarity to these young warriors.

The original event began in Albuquerque in 2007 but has since been held in Rio Rancho since 2010.  Funds raised at this event benefit local researchers in the efforts to find cures for cancers primarily affecting children. The University of New Mexico Hospital was recently awarded a substantial grant from St. Baldrick’s to help in their efforts to eradicate cancers affecting kids.
