In New Mexico, there are about 241 doctors per 100,000 people, which is below the recommended rate.
The other concerning statistic is how many of those doctors are nearing retirement age. New Mexico takes the top spot in that category.
New Mexico has been working to fill that gap. The governor just signed a bill to create more residency positions in the state.
