ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – COVID-19 vaccinations are on pause at The Pit because of a vaccine shortage. “We do have people who were vaccinated several weeks ago that will need the second shot. So this is why we’re pausing at The Pit just to ensure we can cover that allotment of the second shot,” said UNM Health Sciences Public Information Officer Alex Sanchez.

Officials say they have received fewer doses than expected after anticipating 3,000 doses a day. There’s no word on when exactly vaccinations will resume but the hope is in a couple of weeks.

“If you take that marathon analogy we’re just stopping to get a little bit of water here then we’re getting right back on the track and we’re very excited to continue to vaccinate New Mexicans,” said Sanchez. So far, more than 28,000 doses have been administered at The Pit.
