Spring Training MLB Player Broke Barriers

With Spring Training taking place all over Florida and Arizona, its a perfect time to go back in the past and remember Larry Doby, the second African American to break MLB’s color barrier.

America’s pastime takes us back to the desert in 1948 when Larry Doby became the first African American to ever play in Arizona’s Cactus League.

Sports Desk: NM ‘COVID-Safe Practices for Intercollegiate Sports Guidelines’ have been amended

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Governors Office amended their COVID Safe Practices for intercollegiate sports on Tuesday, which now makes it possible for teams from the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University to return home and practice in New Mexico.

"The ability to be able to do this is really so gratifying to know that they are going to have the chance to do it. Is it going to be challenging, absolutely, football was a challenge, basketball has been challenging, as we go through this process with all the spring sports it's going to be challenging as well. Nothing changes, our expectation and our focus is going to be on making sure that we do it and do it right," said UNM Athletic Director Eddie Nunez.

Free virtual event allows all local girls to experience Girl Scouts

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The mission of Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place. The organization is hosting virtual opportunities for girls and their parents to sample Girl Scouts first hand.

Sports Desk: UNM men’s basketball looks split on series with UNLV

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – University of New Mexico's men's basketball is currently 0-7 in conference play and coming off of a 77-54 loss to UNLV on Saturday, the Lobos look to split their series with the Rebels and get into the Mountain West win column on Monday night.

"There is no quick solution to this, it's four freshmen, it's the toughest schedule we have ever had here, there is a lot of just things against them. So, we just got to keep working and keep working through the situation, as troubling as that may be," said UNM Head Basketball Coach Paul Weir, after their loss to UNLV on Saturday.
