The Theater production of “Norma” begins Sunday, April 8 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
It is presented by Opera Southwest, whose executive director Tony Zancanella says is one of the most successful small operas in the country.
Norma – transcendent bel canto.
Bellini’s Norma is the pinnacle of the style, and its intense drama is perfectly matched by the beauty of its music.
Norma tells the story of the Druid priestess who sacrifices it all for love and loyalty, despite the ultimate betrayal. Watch Lindsay Ohse effortlessly navigate one of the most challenging, and breathtakingly beautiful roles in the soprano repertoire. From Casta Diva, to Mira, o Norma, there is not a second of music in the opera that won’t leave you feeling awestruck and inspired.
Lindsay Ohse sings the title role in “Norma”. Her voice has been called “dazzling and crystal clear.” She will debut in the landmark bel canto role of Bellini’s Norma with Opera Southwest. She last sang with Opera Southwest as Amenaide in Tancredi in October 2016. In the spring of 2017, she joined New York City Opera to cover the role of the Angel in the New York premiere of Peter Eötvös’ Angels in America.
