Book celebrates KiMo Theatre, includes fascinating facts and insights

New Mexico Living

KiMo Theatre: Fact and Folklore, is a book that is full of stories about the theater’s amazing past. It includes insights, opinions and researched facts detailing their 90 years in Albuquerque.

Fact & Folklore is presented by Jacqueline Murray Loring. For ninety years, hundreds of thousands of adults and children have packed the KiMo Theatre to watch ballet, drama, movies, and to listen to poetry readings. Performers have acted, sung, danced, and spellbound audiences with magic.

The KiMo Theatre: Fact & Folklore includes newly-told, multi-cultural stories, insights, opinions, never-before-heard remembrances, and researched facts about the Theatre’s 90 years as a performing arts theatre and a movie palace. This collection was written by past employees, elected officials, performers, and audience members who share remembrances of the Bachechi family who built the theater, its Art Deco and Pueblo design and construction in 1927, the 1977 vote by Albuquerque citizens to buy and preserve the building, the theatre’s closings for renovations, its famous Carl Von Hassler’s murals, and (disputed) paranormal activity.
