Keshet’s production ‘Oink!’ blends a traditional tale with a twist on activism

Living

‘Oink!’ is a student-led production created by Keshet director, Olivia Council. The performance tells the story of how in a community terrorized by hate and division, three little pigs, are in the fight to unite.

‘Oink!’ dancers incorporate ballet, jazz, and hip hop styles into storytelling accompanied by a lively score. Three activist pigs try to combat imposing wolves but only end up getting in their own way. A fight breaks out between the sides and someone gets hurt! The future of either side becomes unclear.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to talk to local social organizations about ways to engage: e.g. New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, Watermelon Mountain Ranch Animal Center, American Civil Liberties Union, Equality New Mexico, New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, Transgender Resource of New Mexico.

Keshet’s Pre-Professional Program (KP3) cultivates dancers ages 8-18; combining rigorous dance training with mentorship, discipline and confidence so they are equipped to pursue careers as professional dancers, dance in higher education, or find success in other fields.

Event Details: Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, February 23 at 2 p.m. at Keshet Center for the Arts 4121 Cutler Ave NE Albuquerque NM 87110. General admission tickets run $10 while students, seniors and military personnel will be $5.
