Feed New Mexico Kids and New Mexico Prays, are partnering with Albuquerque Public Schools to feed needy children and their families this thanksgiving.
A $40 donation to the citywide food drive “A Seat at the Table” provides one box of dinner that feeds four people.
It’s goal? to Fill 2,000 boxes and distribute those meals to needy children within the Albuquerque Public School System.
In 2017, 3,750 youth qualified as homeless under the McKinney Vento Homeless Act, which identifies children as homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.
One out of every four kids in New Mexico lives in a food-insecure home, making the state first in the nation for child food insecurity.
A hungry child is twice as likely to repeat a grade, three times as likely to get suspended, and five times as likely to commit suicide.
However, when a hungry child receives regular food assistance, they improve in school attendance, behavior, and school grades.
Pastor Brian Alarid, President of New Mexico Prays, stated; “Poverty, homelessness, and child hunger are issues too big to be solved by the government alone, but when the faith community, businesses, and government agencies put their differences aside to work together for the common good, anything is possible.”
If you would like to partner with Feed New Mexico Kids to feed 2,000 homeless and needy children this Thanksgiving, donations can be made at feednmkids.com. Let’s give them a seat at the table.
