Coming soon to the Adobe Theatre, ‘Quartet’

Living

Coming to the Adobe Theatre,  “Quartet”, features the lives and careers of retired opera singers living together in old age. The play explores aging with grace, with barbs and remembrances.

For Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred, who reside in a home for retired opera singers in Kent, England, getting old comes with well-seasoned wit, barbs and remembrances, fond and otherwise, of their lives and careers. While those careers are mostly in the rear-view mirror, each year on the tenth of October, there is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday, and the singers determine to perform the quartet from Rigoletto.

To round out the quartet Jean, who used to be married to Reggie, arrives at the home. Jean still plays the diva and refuses to sing, but the show must go on in this funny and poignant play by the author of Another TimeThe Dresser and Interpreters, which premiered at the Albery Theatre, London.

Quartet features: Georgia Athearn as Cecily (Cissy), Reggie is played by Mario Cabrera, Phil Shortell is the priapic Wilfred and Alaina Warren Zachary plays the grand diva Jean.

Quartet opens April 19th and runs through May 12th at The Adobe Theater, 9813 4th Street NW. Friday and Saturday evenings performances start at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

During opening weekend, all tickets will be $15!
