Often during the holidays, we have an “all or nothing” mindset where we eat and drink excessively thinking we will start the diet in January.
Then it is the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day and we never get serious about crafting a healthy lifestyle.
Dianne Christensen, Family and Consumer Science Agent with The Bernalillo County Cooperative Extension Service told New Mexico Living, a better option is to reflect on the things we really want to enjoy this season and then plan our indulgences.
For example, if you are going to a party, eat healthy throughout the day, be active, bring a healthy dish to share at the party, and savor a portion of the things you really want to enjoy.
Planning and eating a serving eliminates guilt and beating ourselves up after the holidays. It is very similar to how we budget our money. Choose what you want to spend your calories on.
