Exactly how much impact do dealerships have on the local economy?

According to the National Association of Auto Dealerships, New Mexico has 114 dealerships, which employ nearly 7,000 New Mexicans.

When that umbrella extends to ancillary businesses for the industry, that number grows to 15,000. Payroll in 2017 was close to $365 million, with an average salary ranging above $52,000.

There was $5.1 billion in product moved through dealerships last year, contributing to a national total of $1 trillion.
