In today’s Around Town, one of the biggest parties of the year is set to go down at the historic El Rey Theater. Yelptropolis will feature great local businesses, craft beer, food and fun – and guess what? It’s all free!

New Mexico Living’s resident Around Town Expert, Yelp.com’s Howie Kaibel spoke about the event.

“It always benefits a really cool local cause. This year we are focusing on organizations and businesses that have programs concerning S.T.E.M. – science, technology, engineering, mathematics – and we are asking for a $10 suggested donation at the door that’s going to go to the New Mexico Technology Council,” Kaibel says.Event Details

Bernalillo County initiatives include Spanish programming, low-income grocery pickup for seniors

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Bernalillo County Senior and Social Services provides health and quality of life initiatives for county residents. These initiatives are geared toward improving economic wellbeing, education, health, and more.

The development also addresses food insecurity, transportation issues, and the social isolation of seniors in the community. Additionally, senior lunches are available for pickup at five Bernalillo County locations from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday in a drive-thru style. Senior and Social Services Manager George Schroeder discusses how the department has kept up all of these initiatives during the pandemic.

Take part in community events, attend free education webinars during 30 Days of Nonviolence movement

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The City of Albuquerque is starting the first day of 30 Days of Nonviolence which commemorates the principles and philosophies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For 30 days, community members and allies will commit to practicing nonviolence as a lifestyle by applying the teachings of Dr. King to realistic scenarios.

Equity consultant Devont'e Watson discusses the movement and why it's so important at this time. The Albuquerque community is invited to participate in a series of community events that will include a neighborhood clean up and a community art mural.
