ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque has a newer team of first responders aiming to address problems surrounding homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues. The Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) hit the ground in September 2021, and recently, KRQE News 13 got an inside look at some of the work ACS is doing.

That inside look is featured in Gabrielle Burkhart’s recent investigative report. Gabby recently discussed the story with KRQE News 13’s Digital Anchor Chris McKee in a “Behind the Story” conversation. Watch the video attached in this article for the complete discussion.

For more context about this investigative conversation, view Gabby’s complete story on KRQE.com. The story is titled: “A look inside Albuquerque’s unarmed emergency response.”

Among the questions discussed: what type of access the city allowed for the story, if anyone actually accepted help the ACS workers offered, and more about what the ACS workers think of the work they’re doing.

“Behind the story,” is KRQE News 13’s new online exclusive web series, giving viewers a more detailed look into the process and the work that goes into KRQE News 13’s investigative reports. For more segments on prior stories, visit the KRQE News 13 Investigates page by clicking this link.
