RATON, N.M. (KRQE) – A new Larry Barker investigation sheds light on a tiny government mistake that cost a New Mexico county more than a million dollars in tax refunds. Colfax County is now in the process of paying back residents who overpaid property taxes due to a miscalculation of the county’s mill rate.

Larry Barker recently joined KRQE Digital Anchor Chris McKee to discuss the “big oops” in a “Behind the Story” conversation. Among the topics covered: how county residents are getting refunded, if Larry’s heard anything from the county assessor who could have caught the mistake, and what’s being done to keep the problem from happening again in the future.
