Jared Chester is the Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter at KRQE News 13, whose passion is storytelling and covering local sports. He joined the team in August of 2014, and has enjoyed covering everything New Mexico ever since.
Jared is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, but moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico at a young age. He graduated from Cibola High School and went on to receive his degree in Broadcast Journalism, from Eastern New Mexico University.
While majoring in Broadcast Journalism, Jared worked full time for KENW-TV and part time as the Public Address Announcer for ENMU Athletics. He learned the ins and the outs of the news business working every job, on and off the camera for KENW, but really fell in love with the business when he took over as lead sports anchor his junior year. Jared, also was the “Voice of the Greyhounds”, announcing football, baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer games for the University.
Jared is a Greyhound, but has always been a big fan of the Lobos and has fond memories of Lobo games growing up. His favorite sport is baseball, as he grew up playing and built a love for the Chicago Cubs. “Ever since I was a kid I loved baseball. My dad even says when I was a young child, I used to sit in front of the television and call pitches while watching Cub games”, says Jared. A catcher by trade growing up, Jared of course had dreams of playing in the MLB from a young age. As he got older he understood that was not a realistic goal, so he pursued the next best thing in becoming a sports broadcaster.
When he is not working, Jared enjoys spending time with friends and family, working out, playing golf, watching movies, and shockingly watching sports.
