City announces 3 finalists for APD police chief

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque has narrowed its search for a new police chief to three candidates. One of the finalists is the current acting chief Harold Medina who has stepped in since former chief Mike Geier was fired in September of 2021.

Another candidate is Clinton Nichols, the Chief of Police in Commerce City, Colorado. Nichols served in the Marine Corps before starting his career in law enforcement in the early '90s.

‘Balloon buddy’ delivered to isolated Albuquerque senior citizens

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Lonely senior citizens who have been in isolation are receiving a surprise. Balloon artists around the country have started the "Adopt A Grandparent" campaign. Anyone can adopt a resident at a chosen assisted living facility and for $25 a balloon buddy will be delivered to them.

"We've been making these cute balloon buddies for each resident in a facility. Seniors have been isolated, haven't been able to talk to anyone. So, we decided since we have time on our hands we can donate these balloon buddies," said Dawn Warnack of Urban Balloons by Dawn.

Several bills introduced aim to help New Mexico-owned businesses

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Several bills introduced in this legislative session are aimed at helping local businesses survive the coronavirus pandemic. Local business owners who said they are eligible for relief under these bills say they are happy to see that lawmakers are thinking of them.

New Mexico-owned businesses continue to struggle. "It has definitely been very hard opening, closing and changing things constantly," said Eric Wilson.
