ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A retired sheriff's captain announced Thursday he will make a run for Bernalillo County sheriff next year.
Sylvester Stanley, a former captain of the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Department, worked for the department for more than 20 years.
He has also worked with the Gallup and Isleta police departments.
"We believe in community-based policing," Stanley said. "We believe in working with our neighborhood associations and all other organizations within the community. It takes a partnership."
Stanley said he wants to bring transparency back to the sheriff's department and bring people together to combat crime.
Stanley retired in 2002.
Current Sheriff Dan Houston was elected in 2010.
