ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - In the midst of the ongoing drought, fire season is expected to be bad again this year.
That is why Bernalillo County held its first fire awareness meeting Saturday in the East Mountains.
Officials talked about the preparations firefighters are taking and evacuation plans for residents.
"we've had a lot of dry seasons for the summertime," Michael Chavez with BCFD said. "We get a lot of rain, but then the winds come through and blows everything and dries it all out again. And for the past couple of seasons we've had very dry, drought like conditions. And it's a scary factor."
Firefighters say the most important things you can do to prepare for and prevent a wildfire is have an evacuation plan, thin plants around your house, and make sure all campfires are put out.
