A cold frontal boundary swept through the eastern third of the country on Sunday, while light to moderate snow fell the Rockies.
The Pacific Northwest felt cool, dry conditions on Sunday as a ridge of high pressure continued to build off of the coast of Washington. The Southwest experienced warmer temperatures, as conditions also stayed dry. Meanwhile, a cold front over the Great Basin produced high elevation snowfall in the Rockies, while light to moderate rain fell at lower elevations. Almo Box Elder, Idaho reported a mid day total of 8.6 inches of snow, while Arco, Idaho reported a mid day total of 3.3 inches of snow. Chilly temperatures also swept through parts of the northern Great Basin and into the northern Plains, as Kalispell, Montana reported a morning low of 24 degrees.
Flash flood warnings were issued throughout central Texas as a moist air mass from the Gulf of Mexico interacted with the tail end of a cold front. A handful of cities reported several inches of rain on Sunday, and some areas even exceeded 4 inches. Austin, Texas reported a mid day total of 5. 55 inches of rain, while Del Rio Laughlin AFB, Texas reported a midday total of 4.32 inches of rain. Warm air also accompanied the moist air mass from the Gulf of Mexico, as Edinburg, Texas reported a mid day high of 94 degrees.
Along the Eastern Seaboard, spotty showers move through several Mid-Atlantic states due to a low pressure system off of the coast. The Northeast and Southeast stayed clear of precipitation throughout Sunday.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 23 degrees at Watford City, N.D. to a midday high of 94 degrees at Edinburg, Texas
