ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It's a traffic concept that didn't exist in Albuquerque until this past decade: Roundabouts.
They're meant to keep traffic moving smoothly by doing away with stop signs and signals.
But many drivers just don't seem to know how to drive around them.
The city knows this and once put out an instructional video on how to drive through them.
Despite the problems, the city is studying at least five other possible roundabout sites.
"There's less opportunity for accidents and the second benefit is that those cars are driving at a slower speed so those accidents are less severe," said Michael Riordan, municipal development director for the city of Albuquerque.
Federal studies show roundabouts really cut down on severe crashes because you don't have t-bones or head-on collisions.
The next roundabout could be going in at Candelaria and Rio Grande.
That idea has been met with some stiff opposition by some neighbors.
Santa Fe police are working on a new way to put a stop to busy burglars. Instead of throwing them in jail they want to put them rehab.
