ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A hit-and-run driver took out a gas meter Friday evening prompting an evacuation of the area and shutting down Central Avenue at 47th Street NW.
The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m., and at last report Central remained closed.
Neither injuries nor fire were reported have been reported, but businesses in the immediate area of the leak were evacuated.
The Albuquerque Fire Department and a repair crew from New Mexico Gas Company are on the scene.
It is not known when Central will reopen.
