ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Election results have come in and it is clear what Albuquerque voters want and do not want.
Voters so far give a resounding "no" to bond 12, with 61 percent rejecting Mayor R.J. Berry's $50 million bond proposal.
It would put $25 million toward a new sports complex and set aside another $25 million as a down payment on a new Paseo Del Norte/I-25 interchange.
The first phase alone would cost $90 million.
The whole project could run more than $350 million.
A lot of people did not like how the city combined the two projects into one ballot question and a lot of people wanted all $50 million to go toward the Paseo project.
"I don't think the economy says we can pay for that, especially the sports complex," Bonnie Scott said. "Maybe down the road, a few years from now, but not now."
Mayor Berry came to the realization that voters did not agree with his proposal.
"It looks like the citizens really aren't in favor of the sports complex and if that's the case, let's have a different discussion," Berry said.
The mayor says he will continue to work with the state and the feds to get money for the Paseo/I-25 interchange improvements.
The other 11 bond issues, which deal with everything from public safety and transportation to sewers, parks and libraries, are all passing easily Tuesday.
As much controversy as there's been in this election, turnout's still not expected to top 15 percent.
