Santa Fe, Rio Rancho elect new mayors

It's Election Day in some cities across the state.

In Santa Fe, polls closed at 7 p.m, but residents are still waiting on results to find out who will be the next mayor there.

The new mayor will be the first to have won with Santa Fe's new ranked choice voting system.

People in Rio Rancho also headed to the polls Tuesday.

Election results show incumbent Mayor Greggory Hull winning the race with a 50.7 percent of the overall vote.

His competitor, Thomas Swisstack, came in at 44.6 percent.

Results will be made official by Friday and winners will be sworn into office Monday night.
