Farmington Police respond to reported increase in violent crime

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - The Farmington Police Department is responding to claims crime is out of hand.

The website 24/7 Wall Street published an article last week listing Farmington as one of the cities where violent crime is soaring.

It says the violent crime has increased by more than 51 percent in the last five years, but Farmington Police say that statistic is misleading because it looks at the metropolitan area, which includes Aztec, Kirtland, Bloomfield and other areas.

Farmington covers less than one-percent of that area.
