AZTEC, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a Mora County police cadet is in custody for alleged child solicitation.
San Juan County Sheriff's officials say 56-year-old Mark Preller was arrested Thursday in Farmington.
He's being held on suspicion of two counts of child solicitation by an electronic communication device.
As part of an ongoing online child solicitation investigation, a member of the San Juan County Sheriff's special enforcement team posed as a minor on various websites on Aug. 20.
Authorities say Preller was attending the San Juan County Criminal Justice Training Academy west of Farmington.
They say he responded to a message and allegedly asked for the age of the underage girl.
Authorities say Preller used the Internet and a cellphone to allegedly "coerce and entice" the supposed girl to engage in sexual activity.
