NMSU Regents discuss diverting $1.1M to athletics

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) - The New Mexico State University Board of Regents is discussing a controversial idea to move $1.1 million from instruction to athletics.

The request comes from the Athletic Review Committee, which says it needs the money to sustain the current moment of success in Aggie Athletics.

The Aggie Basketball Team has had a great season, and the Football Team won the Arizona Bowl.

However, not everyone supports the move, other departments at the university are struggling financially and they say taking away more money will hurt students.

The Regents are meeting Tuesday to discuss the proposal.
