THOREAU, N.M. (KRQE) - A New Mexico teen has been given the opportunity of a lifetime, but he needs your help.
Thoreau High sophomore Deshaun Garcia picked up discus, shot and javelin for the first time last year.
After an impressive season, he was selected to compete in the Down Under Sports Track and Field Competition in Australia this summer, but the trip won't be cheap.
His family is unable to afford a passport, let alone a plane ticket, so he's asking for your help getting there.
"Competition-wise would be like to know that there are other people out there, but to know that I can also get there at that level...and traveling-wise would be an experience because non of my family has been out of the country," Garcia said.
The deadline for Deshaun to register is May 1.
