Local Native American actors to appear in History Channel series

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Three local Native American actors are portraying famous historical figures in a new History Channel series.

The four-part docu-series is called "The Men Who Built America: Fronteirsmen."

Melissa Kramer, Robert Mesa and Adam Chess appear in the episode on the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Kramer, who plays Sacagawea, says some of the social struggles her character faced in the early 19th century aren't so different from what Native women face today.

"It was very relatable to get into her character and inspiring to step into her shoes because she used her strength and intelligence to persevere through those struggles and ultimately lead the expedition herself," Kramer said.

The episode airs next Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. on the History Channel.
