ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An Arizona inmate says his former bunkmate killed an Oklahoma couple they had carjacked after breaking out of prison because he didn't want any witnesses.
In his third day on the stand in the capital murder trial of John McCluskey, Tracy Province said Wednesday that McCluskey told Gary and Linda Haas that he wasn't going to hurt them. He told them he only wanted their truck, cash and guns.
He said McCluskey made it sound as if he were going to leave the couple in the New Mexico desert, but not too far for them to walk for help. Instead, Province says, McCluskey took the couple into the trailer and shot them in August 2010.
He says the escaped convicts then set the trailer on fire.
