LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania couple has a hastily arranged wedding ceremony in a hospital so the groom's ailing mother could attend.
Sixth-three-year-old Anna Mae Kern watched the ceremony Friday at Excela Latrobe Area Hospital's chapel.
Thirty-one-year-old Adam Kern says he knew he wanted to marry 27-year-old Ashley Leighty the day he met her. He proposed last year, though the couple hadn't set a date.
But when his mother's health took a serious turn for the worse after a long struggle with breast cancer, the couple planned the wedding in less than a week.
Staff decorated the chapel with flowers and balloons and served cake at a reception in the lobby.
Kern says it meant everything to have his mother at the wedding.
