CHICAGO (AP) — Grammy-award winning hip hop artist Common is wondering what can be done to address gun violence in Chicago.
Speaking in his hometown at the Chicago Music Summit, Common says he and others need to do a lot more to stem the violence.
That was his reaction to a Thursday night shooting at a park that left 13 people wounded including a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the face. Police say the assailants used an assault rifle equipped with a high-capacity magazine. Police believe the shooting was gang related.
Common says that edgy rap music is not only providing the soundtrack for gangs, but might just be helping to fuel the fire of gang violence.
