ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A New Mexican will soon be honored with the highest military honor.
President Obama will present the Medal of Honor to a Santa Fe soldier next month.
Sergeant Leroy Petry, an army ranger, lost his right hand when he grabbed an enemy grenade and threw it away from his fellow soldiers in Afghanistan in 2008.
He had already been shot through both legs.
President Obama will award Petry the medal at the White House July 12th.
He will be only the second living recipient of the medal in the past decade.
Sergeant Petry is currently based in Washington State where he helps injured rangers.
