ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The team behind Gilly Loco Salsa has created an official salsa for the UNM Lobos appropriately named "Howl."
Gilbert "Gilly" Lopez is the name behind the company but has had a lot of help from his wife and brother-in-law.
Lopez says the salsa line, now in stores across New Mexico, came about after a lot of experimenting in the kitchen. After a successful launch, the team decided joining up with the Lobos would be a natural fit.
"I graduated from UNM, I am a huge Lobo fan, my wife is a huge Lobo fan, we are all Lobo fans." says Lopez
After consulting with UNM officials, the Gilly Loco team came up with a perfect recipe to represent the team. Lopez says they've been seeing huge sales ever since.
Lopez says even his Aggie friends eat the salsa, while covering up the logo of course. An NMSU-inspired salsa may be next.
