ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico state police say a woman died Sunday morning after she lost control of her car trying to avoid hitting an animal.
Police say Carolina Lara was traveling on U.S. Highway 70, about 15 miles east of Roswell. She may have been speeding when she swerved to avoid hitting an animal, the car rolled and she was ejected.
Police believe she was not wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger, Osten Marez, was conscious when officers arrived.
Police say there was alcohol at the scene and they are investigating it as a contributing factor.
