ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Less than 24 hours after George Zimmerman was told he is a free man , protests and rallies across the nation have sparked up including one in downtown Albuquerque.
More than 100 people rallied at civic plaza Sunday afternoon holding a candle light vigil for Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old killed by Zimmerman.
Protestors started marching to the federal courthouse.
A Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman , the volunteer watchman, of second degree murder Saturday afternoon, clearing him in the shooting death of Martin.
Protestors believe the shooting was racial motivated and they say that the legal system say "failed the public."
"Our children shouldn't have to be afraid to walk to the store and then home and have to have in the back of their minds that some guy is going to shoot them,"
Onesimus Al-Amin said.
"I'm afraid of the precedent it sets, because where do you draw the line? So it's okay now? And apparently if you're black, anything is pretty much ok," Barbara Byers said.
Protestors also had a candlelight vigil.
They say they need to hold politicians accountable for the incident and want people to have a larger conversation about race.
