Key witness in 2016 murder case may not testify

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) - The trial for a man accused of murdering a Nambe woman is set for next month and the medical examiner might not testify.

Robert Mondrian-Powell is accused of killing 67-year-old Elvira Segura in 2016 and living with her decomposing body in her home.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Dr. Lauren Edelman worked at the State Office of the Medical Investigator.

She conducted Segura's autopsy.

District Attorney Marco Serna says Edelman now works in Texas and is refusing to return to New Mexico saying the state can't pay her asking price.
