SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A Puerto Rico woman accused of biting and ripping off her boyfriend's lower lip has been found guilty of domestic violence.
The island's Justice Department said Wednesday that a jury issued a 9-3 verdict against Melissa Torres.
Police said the 27-year-old woman was upset that her boyfriend was picking up the young son he had with another woman and said the two had clashed earlier over her jealousy.
The incident occurred in May in the northeast coastal town of Luquillo.
Torres is scheduled to be sentenced in October. A surgeon reconstructed the man's lip.
