Over 900 New Mexico kids participate in archery competition

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - An ancient sport is appealing to a new generation. 

A record 906 schoolkids from 100 New Mexico schools took part in the National Archery in the Schools program sponsored by New Mexico Game and Fish.

The winners for the teams divisions: 7 Bar Elementary, which also included the best elementary girl in the state, Mackenzie Brown. 

The top middle school team was James Monroe, which included the best middle school girl in the state, Abby Carlsen. 

The Albuquerque Institute of Math and Science (AIMS) took the top spot for high school. AIMS also had the best high school girl and boy in the state, Caillie Waters and Jack Jeter. 

The top boy archers in elementary and middle school were Jaxon Odem and Tyler Lingnou of Clovis Christian.
