ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE-KBIM) - With all the news about stimulus money the recently closedRoswell Boys & Girls Club got its own sudden financial boostfrom an unexpected source.
Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington donated $50,000 to thefinancially troubled club which went public with its money problemslast month saying expenses were up while donations had dropped.
Washington was in Albuquerque filming his new movie "The Book ofEli" when he saw a story about the club closing. He felt compelledto help as a one-time member of a Boys & Girls Club in Vermontand current spokesman for the organization.
The actor made the donation Wednesday, and already a mural ofhis face is painted on a wall at the facility.
Eastern New Mexico Medical Center also recently donated $5,000to get the Roswell club back on its feet.
