RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A man with lots of access to kids is now accused of disturbing behavior with some including texting a teen and possibly showing other kids pornographic pictures.
Ricardo Cambise, 33, was arrested Monday night when he thought he was meeting up with a teen girl. A criminal complaint alleges he took a box of condoms to the meeting.
Instead agents and detectives were waiting for the former youth volunteer.
Homeland Security Investigations said Cambise had been texting a 13-year-old girl for months. Her parents found out and called authorities immediately.
Agent Kevin Abar said agents and detectives took over the conversations between Cambise and the teen.
"We assumed that identity of that child," Abar said.
According to the criminal complaint Cambise told the agent, whom he thought was still the teen, that he wanted to touch her butt. He then arranged a place they could meet.
Agents said they are also investigating allegations that the teen may not be the only child Cambise has been talking to.
"We do have some concerns. Perhaps he's disseminated some pornographic images perhaps to other individuals," Abar said.
Agents said those individuals were two kids under the age of 13.
Abar would not say if any of the victims were from the youth ranch where Cambise has volunteered at.
The Galloping Grace Youth Ranch director told KRQE News 13 that Cambise volunteered for the organization mainly during the fall and winter events, which include the Christmas Corral event.
The events attract hundreds of kids every year.
The ranch director said they have been working with detectives since learning about the allegations to make sure no other children were possibly victimized.
The ranch said Cambise passed a background check and even has national security clearance because he works for Los Alamos National Laboratory.
There was nothing alarming until the parents of the teen called police about the texting.
"Whenever you have an adult contacting a young child flags should go up, and this parent did the right thing," Abar said.
Agents would not say if Cambise actually molested a child. However, he is facing charges of child solicitation and criminal sexual contact of a minor.
Agents are now urging any other kids who may have been victimized to come forward by calling the HSI Sexual Predator and Exploitation Enforcement Detail, known as the SPEED unit, at (505) 924-6000.
