SHIPROCK, N.M. (KRQE) - Tribal, state and federal agencies are investigating an incident in Shiprock Friday night in which a man was shot and a Navajo Nation police officer stabbed
According to the FBI Navajo officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex around 9:30 p.m.
A fight then started and the man was shot. The FBI said the man's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
A Navajo police officer was stabbed in the foot during the fracas.
A statement released by the FBI on Saturday referred to the shooting only as "officer-related." The Associated Press reported a female officer was the one stabbed and that she had shot the man.
The Farmington Daily Times interviewed witnesses who heard multiple gunshots and reported seeing the injured female officer carrier to a police car. One a resident, who was not home at the time, told the newspaper bullets had come through the wall of his apartment and into a bedroom.
The FBI has not released any names and said no additional information will be forthcoming until the investigation is complete.
