LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) - The gunman who police suspect had inside help staging a robbery and kidnapping at a Los Lunas restaurant is going to prison for a long time.
On Tuesday a judge sentenced Vakai Robinson to 15 years in prison although he faced up to 25 years under a plea deal.
In August 2011 Robinson was wearing a Halloween skeleton mask when he smashed through the drive-up window at a Del Taco restaurant, held up the place and took Ariel Gallegos hostage.
Police later determined Robinson and Gallegos were dating.
Robinson got such a long sentence because he is a habitual offender.
Just a year before this hold up he broke into a home on Albuquerque's West Side and stole three guns and a car.
Then a few days later he broke into a Northeast Heights home stealing more than 30 guns.
He was caught shortly after the Del Taco robbery when he fled a southwest Albuquerque home and tried to escape SWAT officers .
